Recreation in Marion County

There are lots of fun things to do in Marion County ranging from B-B-Q’s and music festivals to art shows and rodeos. There are many parks and sports facilities available and points of access to many different bodies of water including Lake Columbia and the Pearl River.

SIGHTSEEING IN MARION COUNTY
There are some amazing sites to behold in Marion County ranging from natural formations and sweeping views to historic sites and interesting architecture. If you are visiting the area, you don’t want to miss these incredible locations.

LAKE COLUMBIA
Boating and skiing are popular pastimes on Lake Columbia.

HUGH WHITE GAME REFUGE
Encompassing 7200 Acres of outdoorsmen’s paradise, the Hugh White Game refuge is an excellent place to catch some hunting and fishing action.

LAKE BILL WALLER
Lake Bill Waller offers concessions, restrooms, a boat ramp, and rental boats. Go canoeing and tubing on the lake with a convenient picnic area. No skiing is allowed, so you can fish for largemouth bass, bream and catfish.

COLUMBIA COUNTRY CLUB
Members of the Columbia Country Club enjoy access to a modern-styled clubhouse, a golf course, six tennis courts, and two swimming pools

EXPOSITION CENTER
The Expo Center has a seating capacity of 3200 and facilities for rodeos, music festivals, horse shows, and much more.

WATER PARK
Featuring boat ramps with access to the Pearl River and pavilions for picnicking and private parties, the Columbia Water Park is located on Highway 35 near the Highway 13 intersection. It also offers baseball fields, nature walking trails, B-B-Q grills, and a playround for the kids.

RIVER AND CREEKS
In addition to the Pearl River, some of the other rivers and creeks that run through Marion County include Upper and Lower Little River, Holiday Creek, Clear Creek, Harper Creek, Collins Creek, Ten Mile Creek, and Buckhorn Creek.

CITY PARK / FRIENDSHIP PARK
Across from Columbia High School is the City Park’s 30 landscaped acres with walking trails, playgrounds, and tennis courts. The park is adjacent to the public library and across the street from Columbia High School on Broad Street. There is a huge decked pavillion and the Zellco Stage is available for concerts and special events.
