Airboat Adventures

The Pearl River is about to get a lot more fun and exciting!  Sometime in August, Marion County will have a new attraction with Pearl River Airboat Adventures.  The airboat will launch from the Water Park and take riders on trips up the Pearl River to Red Bluff and beyond for sightseeing and wildlife tours.  Gary and Vickie Blackwell, the new owners of the historic Round Table Restaurant, are purchasing the $60,000 airboat in Central Florida and expect to have it brought here by the end of July.

The new airboat is currently under construction and will feature comfortable seating and will be powered by a 496 Chevy big block engine with 425HP.  The city of Monticello has already reserved the boat for the upcoming Labor Day and for the Atwood Music Festival.

Gary Blackwell will run the airboat and is building a special floating dock in the Water Park at his own expense.  He doesn’t mind if other boaters use the dock but he hopes they will have the courtesy to make way for the airboat when it comes in to dock.  Riders will be required wear life jackets and to sign a waiver releasing the county and city from liability.  Hearing protection will be provided, but is optional.

Pearl River Airboat Adventures will be running on weekends and by appointment only, with half hour minimum tours.  The rates have yet to be determined, but will be more affordable than similar tours in Florida and Louisiana.  The main office and headquarters for the airboat will be the Round Table Restaurant located at 318 Church Street in downtown Columbia.  If you are interested in booking an airboat adventure, please contact Gary Blackwell at 601-736-3438 or 601-740-1644 for more information.
