Ann Simmons Proclamation

Longtime Historical Society President Ann Atkinson Simmons has passed the torch after 27 years of service to the Marion County Historical Society. Her successor, the new President of the Historical Society, Lori Watts, presented Mrs. Simmons a Proclamation, from the Mayor’s office, to show appreciation for all of the many things that she has done to preserve and promote the history of Columbia and Marion County, and the list of accomplishments is very long and impressive.
Mrs. Simmons has worked diligently to maintain and preserve both the John Ford Home and the Hugh White Governor’s Mansion, and she has been invaluable in the development of the Marion County and City of Columbia Museum and Archives. Mrs. Simmons has also done an excellent job of producing the annual Heritage Festival, establishing designated historic districts and promoting tourism in Marion County. We all owe her our gratitude for the many years of hard work she has invested into our community.
