Easter Parade and Egg Hunt

Main Street Columbia, Inc. hosted a very colorful Easter Parade and Egg Hunt in downtown Columbia that included several contests like the Best “Float” Transportation Contest, Best Bicentennial Easter Bonnet Contest, and Best Pet Costume Contest.  The parade was led by the Easter Bunny on a firetruck and went from Citizens Bank to the Marion County Courthouse, where plastic eggs filled with goodies were scattered across Courthouse Square.

Kids scrambled on the Courthouse lawn for colorful eggs and prizes.  Two of the eggs included certificates for a boy’s bicycle and girl’s bicycle with gift bags, both donated by Nathaniel Rios and given to a lucky boy and girl.  After the parade and egg hunt, there were games and races at Doskey’s Family Restaurant, where they served hamburgers and hot dogs to the participants.

Many downtown merchants also assembled an Easter Basket filled with gifts from each merchant that was given away in a drawing on Easter.  You could register for this basket at any of the participating merchants in downtown Columbia.
