Jim Cagle Receives Award

Lion Charlie Conerly presented fellow Lion Jim Cagle with the Civil Air Patrol Achievement Award for outstanding duty performance with the CAP since 1976. Although inactive at present, Jim was involved in establishing the Mocking Bird Squadron in Columbia and serving as its first Commander, and was recently presented with the Master Pilot Award by the Federal Aviation Administration in commemoration of 50 years of aviation professionalism. Lt. Col. Charlie Conerly serves as present Squadron Commander.
Also pictured is Ed Shuster, a retired TWA pilot who for the past 11 years has served with his wife Laura, in volunteer work with SOWERS (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready.) This group of retired, skilled workers travel to Christian organizations around the country to help with construction projects. Ed and Laura are presently working a three week commitment with Harvest Ministries, and Ed presented a very interesting and informative program for the Columbia Lions on their work with the SOWERS organization.
Ed was Jim’s flight instructor at Fort Rucker, Alabama for intitial flight training with the United States Army, and they were both very surprised and pleased that the Lord saw fit to bring them together again after 50 years, for Christian service!
Excellent weekly programs are just one of the many reasons for you to consider involvement with the Columbia Lions Club.
