LIFESTYLE IN MARION COUNTY
Check out the lifestyle of the Deep South. Kick off your shoes and stay a while. This section of the site offers tips for the home and garden, delicious recipes, and more.
We love Marion County because of its modern diversity and its old-fashioned charm. The quaint downtown storefronts have been serving area residents since the early 1800′s and provide the historical ambience of a true American hometown.
Timber and forestry play a major role in Marion County’s economy, as it is home to Georgia Pacific, Columbia Chip, Webb Forestry, and many other wood related industries. Sometimes, the pulpwood and chip trucks seem to dominate the roadways and the pine forests roll on for miles.

THE SOUTHERN LIFESTYLE
Lazy days on the front porch swing drinking some cold sweet iced-tea with a cool breeze whispering through the pines are quite common in the deep South. Food is a big part of life in Marion County and cooking a big meal for the family is one of the favorite local activities.

Gardening is an integral part of life in Marion County and it seems like almost everyone has some sort of garden. We grow tomatoes, squash, okra, field peas, and corn. We grow zucchini, peppers, potatoes, lima beans, and even pineapples. We have a rich agricultural heritage dating back to the first settlers here. It is still important to us as can been seen by the large number of farms in the area. We will be providing gardening tips and access to relevant agricultural information on this site.

SOUTHERN COOKING
Cooking in the South is most often a family affair involving fresh meats, vegetables from the garden, homemade desserts, canned preserves, and buttermilk buscuits. We like fried chicken, fresh catfish, crawdads, smoked ham and turkey with squash, fried okra, corn on the cob, potato salad, and fried green tomatoes. Bar-B-Q is a revered art form in the deep South.
